'The Walker Art Gallery has always been contemporary'

Dr Melissa Gustin, curator of British Art at National Museums Liverpool, about Turner: Always Contemporary

The Stored Honey podcast is back! Well, sort of. I found it was impossible to dedicate the time needed to produce long interviews like those in the first two episodes but at the same time I regularly record chats with curators, artists and other creatives that I’m unable to use in full in my written pieces.

These are not recorded as podcasts - I’m not behaving as a presenter but asking questions that will draw out the information or explanation or emotion I’m looking for in constructing a written feature. Often I don’t say much at all because the interviewee is in full flow or might feel constricted if I keep chipping in.

And I usually don’t have all my podcast recording equipment with me so the audio quality isn’t as high. But… I do think there’s value in sharing these interviews with you in an unslick, behind-the-scenes sort of way. If you agree - or don’t - please let me know what you think in the comments and I’ll adjust accordingly. Because they’re so unpolished I won’t be sharing these on podcast platforms - they’ll just be available through Stored Honey on Substack.
