Things to do in February 2025
Your curated guide to February's arts and culture across the North West
What famous women have influenced you in your life? I’ve been thinking about this since receiving details of dot-art’s upcoming exhibition Iconic Women, which opens on Friday, February 14. The works include everyone from PJ Harvey and Björk to lesser known but equally as impressive figures such as Louise Kenny, a cancer survivor and pioneering professor in women’s health.
The women who have had the greatest affect on me are not household names, but much closer to home. My Mum, for example, who became a computer programmer when it was still seen as a predominantly male role and who was a mature student at university, handing in an essay on the same day she went into labour with me. The former colleague who always seems to think in a different way to everyone else - and who has a quiet authority, not having to shout or manipulate people to convince them to follow her.
Who would you include in an exhibition of Iconic Women? Let me know in the comments.
