Meet multi-disciplinary artist Dee Mulrooney
Shining a spotlight on the work of talented creatives across Liverpool, Manchester and the North West
This is the second in my new Meet a Creator series, published especially for Stored Honey’s paid subscribers, which delves more deeply into the work and values of individual artists, actors, musicians, curators, producers, writers and other creatives. This time, we’re meeting Irish multi-disciplinary artist and activist Dee Mulrooney, who is based in Berlin but is bringing her performance piece Growler to Liverpool later this month in collaboration with community arts organisation Heart of Glass.
Growler is Mulrooney’s alter-ego - an 85-year-old drum-banging shamanic vulva living in exile. Through storytelling, song, spoken word and comedy, Growler takes audiences on a ritualistic, theatrical journey through grief, loss, exile and displacement.
Her description of finding time to work on her art in the cracks that open up in her day really chimed with me, as someone juggling a lot of different projects with my personal life.
The regular Meet the Creator feature is published exclusively for paid members to thank them for their support, which is needed to keep Stored Honey running.
