This is the seventh in my Meet a Creator series, published especially for Stored Honey’s paid subscribers, which delves deeply into the work and values of individual artists, actors, musicians, curators, producers, writers and other creatives. This time, we’re getting two for the price of one - father and son sculptors Brian and George Fell.

This is Stored Honey, a weekly arts and culture newsletter covering England’s North West. Sign up to get it straight to your inbox

Until reading up on their upcoming exhibition at The Atkinson in Southport and despite working in the town every weekend as a teenager, I had not realised Brian was the sculptor behind Southport’s seafront sculptures of seagulls and shrimps. I now realise that their work has been making me smile - all over the country - for many years.

I really enjoyed reading about how Brian’s traditional techniques and George’s modern references merge in their creations - and the idea that their sculptures are poised to walk or fly away the moment your back is turned.

The regular Meet the Creator feature is published exclusively for paid members to thank them for their support, which is needed to keep Stored Honey running. If you would like to join us and receive it straight to your inbox, you can subscribe for £6 per month (£60 for an annual subscription) using this button…
